COURSE HISTORY
International Intensive Course on UNESCO Global Geopark
The International Intensive Course on UNESCO Global Geoparks has taken place in Lesvos Island UNESCO Global Geopark every May/June, since 2007.
It is organized by the University of the Aegean’s - Department of Geography and the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest, with the contribution of Geopark experts from all over the globe.
It comprises the creation and operation of a theoretical background together with extensive fieldwork.
The course provides an opportunity to discover how UNESCO Global Geoparks can make a real impact in local communities and on society as a whole but also provides conceptual issues on UNESCO Global Geoparks.
Lectures are given by Geoparks experts and academic staff with long experience on geoheritage and geodiversity management, sustainable tourism and Geoparks.
The course is open to Geoparks’ staff members with a degree in Geosciences, to PhD and Master students working on Geoparks, as well as to Geoscientists having a special interest on the topic.
